Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, Primland is a luxury resort that merges refined hospitality with unspoiled nature. Among its most unique accommodations is the Mountain Top Tree House, designed and built by La Cabane Perchée, a renowned French atelier specializing in high-end arboreal architecture. Perched in the canopy of a century-old oak, the tree house offers breathtaking views and a sense of serene seclusion. Accessed by a red cedar spiral staircase, the cabin opens onto a private terrace overlooking the forest, providing a rare and intimate connection with nature. Inside, the custom wood interiors combine warmth and sophistication, creating a cocoon of comfort above the forest floor. The project embodies sustainable, respectful design — preserving the tree’s vitality while offering guests a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At Primland, this tree house isn’t just a place to stay — it’s a place to dream.
From the Architect | Nature is the primary influence behind each of our bespoke creations. Over time, and depending on our clients’ needs, we’ve expanded our offering to include larger cabins on stilts. But our core craft — and our passion — remains the treetop cabin. It requires a tree that is tall enough, strong enough, and well-positioned to welcome both the structure and its guests. The chosen tree then dictates how the treehouse will be built, always respecting one fundamental principle: never harm the tree, never constrain it, and always allow it to live and grow. The branches chart the path. The tree remains our foundation, our guide. Our structures never impose on the landscape — they slip into it, blend with it, becoming a natural extension of the living world. That is the magic: giving birth, from a tree, to a habitable work of architecture.
What child has never climbed a tree? What child has never built a treehouse in the forest — a hideaway, a secret place out of sight, a refuge for the soul? Alain Laurens turned this childhood dream into a reality for adults in 1999 by founding La Cabane Perchée, an extraordinary wooden construction workshop. A way to extend the dream, to bring a dream to life — close to the stars. That is the essence of La Cabane Perchée.
