Editor’s Picks: 12 More Monochrome Goods We Love

New Limited-Edition Collection | Victoria Yakusha
The first works created by Ukrainian artist and designer Victoria Yakusha since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, these pieces reflect a powerful message of peace, hope and connection with her homeland. The centerpiece is a hand-woven, two-meter tapestry, Zemlia (Ukrainian for earth). Its layered texture embodies the black-colored Ukrainian soil, while the long, umbilical-like threads represent the primal connection every Ukrainian has with their earth. The technique used to create the artwork is a piece of history: An ancient Ukrainian craft, lizhnykarstvo, now on the brink of extinction, is passed down from mother to daughter in the Carpathians, a mountainous region in Western Ukraine. Every stitch contains the DNA of generations, a witness to the mystery of the land, its history, and spirit. The Zemlia tapestry is presented alongside Volyky, a series of animistic benches, whose name is derivative of the Ukrainian word for “freedom.” Together with primitive stools, Duzhyi (“sturdy” in Ukrainian), the design pieces construct a mystical prairie, the source of natural magic of the land. Each piece is hand-sculpted in the author’s signature sustainable material.
