Ma Yansong, founder and principal of MAD Architects, brings a sense of wonder to Gardenhouse, an imaginative Beverly Hills development embracing the concept that architecture and the environment can re-define the feeling of home and inspire a better life.
“In the context of our dense urban centers, my hope is for architecture to reconsider the relationship between humanity and nature, and re-establish the emotional connection between the two,” remarks Ma Yansong. “With Gardenhouse, we propose a new paradigm for the West Coast architectural vernacular amid the sprawling density of Los Angeles.”
Reflecting on a time when nature was woven into every aspect of daily life, Gardenhouse creates a modern-day village where private and public spaces are curated with detail, style and simplicity. At the center of Gardenhouse is a reflecting pool, a tribute to the natural springs in Beverly Hills which first drew the community together. A collection of residences surrounds the open-air atrium where a lush canopy of exotic trees and secret gardens offer a perfect sense of seclusion.
As Ma Yansong and MAD Architects’ first project in the United States, Gardenhouse celebrates the spirit of modern California living while reinventing its essence in a thoroughly modern form.
