It’s a wonderful life at home. As more of us nest this season (travel plans are down 26 percent compared to last year), the dinner table takes center stage. Focus your lens on making memories with natural beauty or new takes on wintry traditions. Here, fresh ideas for unforgettable tablescapes, perhaps the greatest gift of all.

A flower cloud. This floating, chandelier-style centerpiece makes a dramatic Instagram-worthy statement for Yuletide, Hanukkah, and New Year’s Eve. It starts with a wire cylinder suspended in mid-air and filled with dried flowers or greens.
“The Scandinavian way is minimalist, with neutral colors, but I’m from the Caribbean, so I like color,” says Carmen Henriquez Cruz, interior stylist for BoConcept, the Danish brand founded in 1952. “I chose traditional and tropical greens, along with feathery, straw-colored ones, plus small white lights, and golden ornaments in the center to make a Christmas cloud.” Check out the how-to video below to fashion your own Flower Cloud:
New takes on red and green. “Choose softer hues – sage greens and paler reds, with a pop of rose gold or pink in ornaments or trimmings,” says Henriquez Cruz. “The focus is back on gatherings with family and friends, but now the trend is using traditional decor in a fresh new way.”

Put the Christmas tree near the dining table. This allows for family to see it all through the meal and to take photos with a beautiful backdrop. Pictured: The Rubi, a walnut coffee table by day that expands into a dining table that seats eight.
Add some plaid. “Not old-fashioned plaids like tablecloths, but accents like plaid charger plates,” the stylist says. She also tops her table with evergreen and olive leaf boughs down the center (all faux, for fire safety), winter-white plates and serveware to celebrate nature, and special-occasion, gold-plated flatware.
Happy holidays.
