Last month, the award-winning Swedish-based interior design firm JOYN Studio made their official debut in the States, with the grand opening of Chez Fifi on New York’s Upper East Side. Nestled in a charming townhouse, the bi-level 1930s-inspired French bistro invites guests into a refined yet inviting atmosphere.

Chez Fifi is a restaurant by Joshua and David Foulquier, the partners behind the renowned Sushi Noz. The Foulquier brothers, who grew up on the Upper East Side, drew inspiration from their French heritage for the concept, naming the restaurant after their mother, Fifi. Their passion for food led them to Stockholm’s acclaimed Restaurant Frantzén, another JOYN Studio project.
“Working with JOYN Studio allowed us to create something deeply meaningful and unique. They didn’t just design a space; they created an experience,” shares Joshua. “Chez Fifi captures the warmth of a Parisian bistro, enriched by JOYN’s attention to detail and Scandinavian aesthetic.”

The interior of Chez Fifi transports guests to early 20th-century Europe. The main dining room features mahogany paneling, deep blue hues, and plush banquette seating. For more intimate gatherings, there is a private dining room. Upstairs, the second-floor salon features a fireplace, vintage chandelier and an eclectic blend of decor inspired by the warmth of a Parisian living room.

Executive Chef Zack Zeidman has crafted a menu that riffs on French and Basque classics. The offerings blend French finesse with a nod to the coast of northern Spain, with Txangurro, Deviled Crab baked San Sebastian style, delicate Spanish red prawn tartare scattered with breadcrumbs accompanied with rich Hollandaise and Kaluga caviar, Basque-style Clam Risotto, and more.
Bon appetit.
