Liz Roache Brings a Pop of Color To the Boston Design Center

Local artist and educator Liz Roache joins the eclectic lineup of showrooms at the Boston Design Center (BDC) as a pop-up shop. With her eye-catching collection of original artwork, she begins her BDC career with a bang.

THE PAST | Liz Roache is a local artist, designer, and art-educator: an artistic jack-of-all-trades.

Liz was fortunate enough to begin her career training and working with Ati Gropius – daughter of Walter Gropius, founder of The Bauhaus – for 30 years. “Ati taught me everything I know about color and design.”

From there, she hit the ground running. After taking the reigns for Ati, Liz went on to teach Josef Albers’ Interaction of Color and two Bauhaus design courses; offer color workshops to corporate companies; and design exclusive product in partnership with the Museum of Modern Art.

In preparing for the next creative chapter in her life, Liz went back to her roots to rediscover her love of color and its incredible emotional impact. She spent the next year designing a collection of fine art prints centered around the power of color and dynamic design. “My goal was to produce fabulous looking work, have it printed with the very best quality and make it affordable for everyone.”

THE PRESENT | In October of 2017, Liz was invited to put on a pop-up shop at the Boston Design Center. “My daughter and I transformed a big, empty, open space into an inviting art gallery within a few days.” Liz received an outpour of positive reactions to her gallery and immediately felt at home at the BDC.

“At the Design Center, I am surrounded by the work of some of the most incredibly talented interior designers – of which I did not know Boston had so many – and magnificent architectural firms as well as exciting corporate art buyers that all have a real vision for beauty.”

THE FUTURE | Every day that Liz has spent at the Boston Design Center has brought her new opportunity. She has had the pleasure of being involved in several projects including a commercial hotel, a corporate office, a young start-up and a family’s new home, to name a few.

The feedback from happy patrons is all the reassurance that Liz needs. “When someone walks in and says ‘wow, the work makes me so happy!’ then I know I am doing my job.”
