Maybe it’s true that lovely Italians (think Sophia Loren and certain vintage wines) really do get more desirable with age.
Seems to be the case for the Italian luxury furniture design firm B&B Italia, celebrating its golden anniversary. Started in 1966 by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, a visionary entrepreneur on the scene of design and an extraordinary ambassador of “Made in Italy” in the world, the company is a beloved source for modern upholstered seating, tables, wall units, closets and more.
Headquartered in Novedrate, Italy – in the Province of Como, in the Lombardy region – the modern contemporary line is sold worldwide, with flagship stores in Milan, London, Paris, Munich, Paris, New York, Chicago, Washington DC and another new flagship opening in New York this May on
Madison Avenue.
You know its iconic, sometimes ironic, unforgettable designs, such as the Up Series chair by Gaetano Pesce (designed in 1969, with a ball-shaped, attached ottoman) and the Tulip swivel armchair by Jeffrey Bernett.
The company has won four Compasso d’Oro (Golden Compasses), the most prestigious Italian design award, and alongside the “Home Division” has a “Contract Division” dedicated to turnkey projects in hospitality, retail, offices, public institutions and cruise liners. And beauty keeps up with the times. About that Up Series chair? B&B Italia rolled out in 2014 the playful UPJ for kids over three.
