Magazzino Italian Art Breaks Ground On The Robert Olnick Pavilion

Magazzino Italian Art this week is celebrating the groundbreaking of its newest building. The Robert Olnick Pavilion will be the second building on Magazzino’s campus in Cold Spring, New York, set to open in 2023.

The new pavilion will add 13,000 square feet to the existing exhibition space and will incorporate a room devoted to decorative arts, ceramics and jewelry, alongside a multi-purpose room with auditorium capabilities and a combined cafe and shop on the mezzanine.

Renowned Spanish architect Alberto Campo Baeza and Miguel Quismondo are collaborating for the first time to design the Robert Olnick Pavilion in the same spirit as the existing Magazzino Italian Art building, which features more than 18,000 square feet of exhibition space as well as a library with more than 5,000 publications of Italian art.

With the expanse of space, Magazzino will also launch an Education Department in 2023. The department, hosted in the additional multi-purpose room and auditorium, will allow Magazzino to further its investment in the town of Cold Spring, offering engaging and educational programming year-round.

Following the modern sensibilities of Magazzino’s main building, strategically placed windows and skylights will allow visitors to enjoy the beauty of the campus, engaging with the natural landscape as well as the art in new viewing experiences.

This groundbreaking equips Magazzino with the space and momentum to further its mission and curatorial, scholarly and public initiatives, continuing to explore the impact and enduring resonances of Italian art on a global level.
