This New York couple had a tremendous opportunity after their youngest flew the coop; the chance to redesign their gracious apartment and start a new chapter together. To make their dreams a reality they turned to the expertise of the lauded interior designer and founding Elle Decor staff member, Kammi Reiss of Kammi Reiss Design.
An original Marilyn Minter print serves as a visual anchor for this transitional-style entryway. The rich, warm tones in the home’s original parquet floor are echoed in a midcentury-inspired table. A glass bubble chandelier hangs above and catches the natural light from the nearby windows, overlooking 82nd St in Manhattan.
Earth tones, subtle whites, and natural finishes are offset by pops of teal glass, vermillion, and rich orange wood throughout the living room. All upholstered furniture was custom-designed by Kammi Reiss. A geometric credenza creates harmony with the square edges of the furniture.
The thematic color scheme carries into the kitchen with the featured custom-designed breakfast nook, with booth-style seating in a rich distressed taupe leather, and wooden leg, molded plastic Eames-style chairs.
The kitchen (left) and bathroom (right) both feature soft tones combined with white. In the kitchen, horizontal textured cabinets match the champagne-toned steel fixtures.
In the bathroom, a beautiful standalone bathing tub is complemented by the natural marble tiling on the walls and floors. The ethereal feeling of the bathroom makes it easy for the empty nest couple to relax with luxurious self-care.
A metallic wallpaper offers visual rhythm against a serene master bedroom. Touches of aubergine and copper play off one another in a nuanced field of gray. Natural light floods the room which catches the sheen of the wallpaper, as well as the textured velvet bed frame and headboard.
