At meta44 they design all of their pieces in-house. meta44 themselves produce the concrete pieces and have a local welder who makes bases for them. The concrete that they use is structural concrete; so it is rougher than what you’d normally see used on kitchen countertops. In this sense it is pretty low-tech. Each piece is formed with locally milled hemlock and has steel reinforcements inside. The meta44 bases are made from hot-rolled steel that we finish with a clear matte lacquer. This allows the base to still look “raw” and not rust over time. The bases can also be powder coated if a client wants a color.
meta44 seeks brands that reflect the brands aesthetic values: well-designed and beautifully crafted objects that are modern, natural and fun. They believe in supporting the artists and artisans whom they represent and sharing their stories because they love how design has the ability to make us feel connected. meta44 is a play on words (a metaphor for…) but also a reference to the founders’ intention to deepen awareness of the many degrees of modern and unearth the stories reflected in good design.
The store is shared with Allee’s architecture firm AA+D, creating a unique and exciting intersection between architecture and design.
