For decades, celebrities, socialites, and business magnates have sought a chic desert getaway for a weekend of cocktails and poolside lounging. Now, Kevin Kemper and Howard Hawkes – the team behind H3K Design – are bringing midcentury relaxation to a new generation, and a fresh light to the leisurely life.
This philosophy of reviving the old with the new is embodied by H3K’s recent renovation of a home from 1958, originally designed by Modernist master William Krisel for homeowner Chick Iverson, the first Porsche Dealer in Orange County and a close friend of John Wayne.
The renovated home blends the best of Midcentury design with a new eye for bold yet simple color and modern-day entertaining. Classic touches like clerestory windows, varied and vaulted ceiling lines, and a butler’s pantry gain new relevance through touches like wooden accents throughout the home, a climate controlled wine room, brilliant mosaic tile work, and a huge kitchen island begging for a round of Manhattans.
