A prolific artist, musician, and graphic designer, Nigel Rollings moved from London to New York in 1974, where he spent the first decade as a graphic designer by day and playing music by night before settling into his current occupation as a landscape designer. Since 1986, Nigel Rollings has been the sole proprietor of his design/build landscape architecture firm, designing and installing gardens on the ground, terraces, and roofs across the tri-state area. He recently completed his 50th deck – a circle, for an NBA shooting star.
Nigel has been an instructor of Urban Garden Design at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden since 1996, with a focus on water conservation, sustainability and the principles of design. His firm has been recognized with a silver award for residential garden design from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers for a garden in the Lefferts Gardens section of Brooklyn, which was later featured in Better Homes and Gardens. The rear garden here at 145 Columbia Heights was featured in New York City Gardens, published by Hirmer Verlag, Munich in 2010. He is currently working on an instructional cable television show on urban garden design, to be called “Outer Space.”
