Germany-based Original in Berlin is a unique destination for vintage, midcentury furnishings. With a curated selection of rare, high-quality pieces and an in-house workshop, the brand offers a full-service experience from sourcing and restoration to customization and installation.
“Our goal is to curate pieces that carry both history and presence-objects that bring a sense of authenticity and atmosphere to contemporary living,” says founder Lars Triesch.
The gallery’s latest curation of vintage furniture and lighting celebrates the intersection of rustic modern style and timeless craftsmanship. Designed for chalets, mountain lodges, or interiors that embrace natural warmth, the curation brings together rare European and Scandinavian design pieces with strong architectural character.

At the heart of the curation is an armchair by Danish Functionalist architect Frits Schlegel, distinguished by its angular silhouette, cherrywood frame, and Vienna cane weaving. The piece reflects Schlegel’s enduring legacy of uniting traditional craftsmanship with industrial innovation, standing as a rare find for collectors of 20th-century design.

Equally notable is a rare set of iron planters from 1950s France, valued for their sculptural form and enduring craftsmanship. With their original patina and distinctive proportions, the planters embody mid-century French design at its most elemental. Emerging from a postwar era that embraced both artisanal ironwork and modernist restraint, they represent a convergence of utility and artistry, making them highly sought after by discerning collectors.

The Mountain Chalet Furnishings moodboard evokes the quiet luxury of alpine retreats, where timber beams and stone fireplaces are paired with refined vintage design. Monumental oak floor lamps, Bruno Mathsson chairs, and handcrafted redwood cabinetry illustrate how each piece carries history and patina, adding depth and authenticity to contemporary interiors. Collectively, they create a language of design that is both elevated and cozy, grounded in authenticity and timeless in its appeal.

Through this new curation, Original in Berlin continues to establish itself as a destination for collectible vintage design, connecting international clients with rare finds that merge functionality, history, and enduring beauty.
