At Close Range: Town & Country Kitchen And Bath

ASPIRE DESIGN AND HOME recently reached out to several leading kitchen and design firms to discover their point of view on top trends and new developments in their industry. Their thoughtful responses delve into what motivates, inspires and excites these design pros, and how that passion ultimately breeds success.

From Town & Country Kitchen And Bath we spoke with Principal/Designer Ginny Padula.

ASPIRE DESIGN AND HOME: Where does your inspiration come from when creating stylish kitchens for your clients?
Ginny Padula: That is the thing about inspiration, it can come from so many places. Client’s lifestyles and the architecture of the home are typically a starting point from there we focus on creating personalized spaces that will be beautiful, functional, and enhance their lives for years to come.

ADH: What is the best or most enjoyable part of your position as a kitchen designer?
GP: We are blessed to be doing something that we are truly passionate about, with that there are many benefits to the “job”, one of our favorite parts of the process is when we present the client’s design packages. This is the point when, through our expertise, their dreaming starts to take form. It is always exciting for a client to see things come together, their satisfaction in what we provide is infectious.

ADH: If you were designing a kitchen for your own home, what would you include?
GP: Good Question, this is like asking a parent to choose which child is their favorite. There are so many beautiful directions to go, it can be difficult to pick just one. The specifics would vary based on which member of the TCKB design team you ask, but collectively we all appreciate the use of natural materials, rich finishes, blending clean lines with European influences.

ADH: Is there anything you wouldn’t include in your own dream kitchen? (and why not?)
GP: Countertop integrated soap dispensers, they just always seem to be messy

ADH: What are some of the most exciting innovations you’ve seen in today’s kitchen industry?
GP: There have been so many innovative storage solutions in cabinetry, when you are working with custom cabinetry as we do, the options are limitless…a designer’s dream!

ADH: What technology features are your clients are including in their kitchen designs?
GP: We are incorporating more appliances that promote healthy living and functionality in using the space. For instance, steam ovens, induction cooktops in addition to gas ranges. Lighting is another feature that has come a long way, we are incorporating lighting in cabinetry through kitchens for functionality.

ADH: How do some of these technological advances help kitchens to be more efficient or organized?
GP: Again, incorporating lighting inside cabinetry has been huge in places like drawers and pantry cabinets. It takes these deep spaces, once difficult to organize and find things in exponentially more functional simply by being able to see everything stored inside.

ADH: Which manufacturers are on the cutting-edge of the kitchen industry?
GP: Countertops, particularly quartz products are constantly improving making them more visually appealing to look like natural materials and more durable.

ADH: What are some popular design trends your clients are requesting for their kitchens?
GP: It’s exciting to finally see a shift from the white kitchen, although a white kitchen is classic and beautiful, we are seeing trends move toward color and light stains.

ADH: What 2020 kitchen design trends do you think will be long-lasting?
GP: The finishes that we are incorporating into spaces right now are updated but timeless, especially the stained finishes.

ADH: What is your favorite meal to prepare for a crowd?
GP: Seafood is a staple here at the shore and there is nothing like some little necks prepared on the grill and locally sources fish, crabs, etc.

ADH: What is your favorite meal to prepare if it’s just for you?
GP: A simple, yet delicious go-to dish for us all is the Zuccini Tart from the Rustic Plate website. Perfect just as the recipe explains but easily adaptable for whatever veggies you have on hand. And it is a cinch to make.

ADH: How would you describe your work style?
GP: Collaborative. Each project has a dedicated design team working on it but we are commonly bouncing ideas around the studio to ensure that every project benefits from our collective experience and perspectives.

ADH: Describe your personal design style (rustic, modern, traditional, etc.)
GP: We appreciate aspects of different design elements but are consistently drawn to styles that offer a feeling of effortless luxury and livability, something we strive to incorporate in each space we create.

ADH: What was your first design job?
GP: My first design project was a beautiful restoration of an oceanfront beach house. It was one of the large, older homes, with cedar shake siding and a wraparound porch with a swinging daybed! Lots of bedrooms for family and friends. We opened up the main floor layout to take advantage of the ocean views and updated all the bathrooms and kitchen. The client wanted to keep many of the old characteristics of the home, which was fun to incorporate into the interior design.

ADH: What is your favorite kitchen color scheme right now?
GP: Dark….we are loving the rich deep greens, blues, and blacks in kitchens. It makes such a bold statement.

ADH: Complete this sentence: The one thing I can’t live without in my kitchen is …?
GP: Cast Iron Skillet

ADH: What is the best piece of design advice you ever received?
GP: “Design Matters” We are not just creating a pretty space, as designers we have the ability and visualize and execute rooms and entire homes that are beautiful esthetically but can improve the lives of those who inhabit them. With that ability comes a responsibility to go beyond the status quo and use the best materials, trades people, and design ideas that the project allows for.

ADH: If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?
GP: I can’t image not being a designer it is so much of who we are.
