A geometrically-tiered residential tower at 5 River Park brings a collection of 25 condominiums to Brooklyn’s historic Cobble Hill neighborhood. As part of River Park – a master-planned re-development of the former Long Island College Hospital site – this complex forms a gateway between Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights and the 85-acre Brooklyn Bridge Park overlooking lower Manhattan and the East River.Combining classic red brick and modern dark grey concrete results in an exterior that’s right in line with the setting’s village vibe, according to the architect. “5 River Park is designed with traditional materials common to Cobble Hill, including brick, limestone and ornamental metalwork,” notes Douglas Romines, principal of Brooklyn-based Romines Architecture. “The building’s facades are well-proportioned, with depth and relief, while integrating contemporary details.” A mindful palette of materials reflects the look of many 19th-century residences lining the streets of this established neighborhood in the southwestern part of the borough.
Recognized for his portfolio of private home commissions, Romines’ interior amenities are the equal of any grand dwelling: white oak flooring washed in a pale antique finish, oversized picture windows, custom millwork, kitchens featuring polished marble slab countertops with metal inlays, and baths containing industrial fixtures from Brooklyn’s own Waterworks.
