In belief that the smallest of rooms can often be the most inviting, Studio Dorion outfitted the second floor bedroom for even the most discerning of house guests. Inspiration for the decoration was found in the design principles of Greek Revival style (symmetry, simplicity, and elegance), while also embracing modernity. Tonal colorways of “chino” cotton envelop the room, utilizing a humble material in a new way. This backdrop of beige highlights the collection of Scandinavian furnishings: a Danish modern secretary by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen plays a counterpart to the contemporary side table by fellow Dane, Jonas Trampedach; the pewter chandelier showcases the simple elegance of the Swedish Grace period. Eclectically mixed in are a 70’s lucite table lamp, Vico Magestretti’s “Eclisse” desk lamp, and bronze plaques by the French sculptor Robert Couturier. The totality of the room places the human necessities of comfort, pracility, and aesthetics at the center – a credo for all projects by Studio Dorion.
