The only thing left for this newly renovated East Hampton vacation home was the signature modern touch of designer Tamara Magel. With her combined experience in custom builds and eco-conscious design she creates unforgettable, sophisticated and comfortable homes. It’s because of Magel’s understanding and appreciation for her clients’ desires when renovating their homes, that she has been able to deliver the highest quality of design since 2000.
Known for her modern aesthetic, Magel enjoys combining fine finishes that interplay with organic elements, natural materials and artisanal detail. Utilizing low VOC paints and wood finishes, organic fabrics, combined with a mix of reupholstered, vintage and new furnishings, Magel has proven that creating environmentally conscious dwellings can be an easily achieved task with the right know-how.
Magel, working closely with the contractor, helped to construct the floor plans and interior treatments to create a sophisticated and organic open-air layout, while also employing a utilitarian design sensibility that caters to the large family and its practical needs. With the client’s request to maintain a “beachside home” feel, Magel used wide-plank white oak flooring throughout, as well as custom metal and glass for the staircase which adds to that breezy aesthetic.
In the sun-soaked living room, there is a sense of calm that seeps in as you recline in the custom grey sofa and vintage-reupholstered side chairs. Of course, you can also choose to relax in the shearling side chairs custom made by Magel, as well. Full glass doors with glass panels above peer out into the yard and give natural light to the room during the day. At night, Holly Hunt lighting hangs above to create a soft ambiance, while the Venetian plaster-finished fireplace makes for cozy nights with the family.
Magel flexed her custom design and buildability with the dining room ensemble that sits in the high-ceiling and outdoor-facing dining room. To seat the large family, the designer created a custom 160-inch ebony slab dining table, as well as the custom shearling, leather, and wood chairs. Accompanying the open-air aesthetic of the design is a Lariat pendant ensemble by Apparatus Studios. This draped-style lighting fixture adds levity to the hard lines of the other furnishings.
The bright, white and natural wood color-storied kitchen provides ample storage and pantry space with custom-built cabinetry designed by Magel in white oak panel. Serve up a family breakfast or entertain guests with hors d’oeuvres at the large center island because cooking becomes a breeze with stainless steel range from SubZero-Wolf, appliances by Bosch, and tiles from Waterworks. Lawson-Fenning counter stools and custom white quartz countertops finish off the sleek and clean look of this kitchen.
The lounge and sitting room that flanks the dining room offers a place for respite after a delicious meal- Come and get comfortable on this navy blue sectional sofa from B&B Italia as you watch a movie on the panel TV. You can also put your feet up on the squash-colored leather ottoman that was designed custom by Magel. Alongside the sofa is a statement Circle Chair, originally designed by Hans Wegner. This room is the perfect place to end the night before heading upstairs into bed.
The master and second bedrooms offer a full sensory relaxation with subtlety and finesse. Furnished exclusively in natural colored organic linens and white finished woods, both rooms offer an escape into a lush and dreamy paradise. And, with so much attention to the tactile details, especially the complimenting shearling bench by Magel, these rooms provide a pleasant (and tasteful) way to get a restful night’s sleep.
