From Honky-Tonk To Haute Design: Step Inside The Marigold Club

The opulence of Mayfair, London, meets the vibrant energy of Houston’s Montrose neighborhood in The Marigold Club. Brought to life by Austin-based FoxFox Studio, in collaboration with designer Bailey McCarthy and her partners at Goodnight Hospitality, every element of the design is rooted in craftsmanship and intentionality.

As the fourth jewel in the crown of Goodnight Hospitality, The Marigold Club embraces French cuisine while celebrating the global influences of London culture. Picture lavishly adorned interiors, exuding warmth and sophistication, where every detail whispers luxury.

The transformation of the space is certainly striking. Once home to Goodnight Charlie’s, a rustic honky-tonk bar, the site has been reimagined as a 160-seat dining room designed with a sense of intimacy and grandeur. Green velvet-upholstered ceilings and plush banquettes establish a tactile richness, while custom Murano glass chandeliers by third-generation master glassmaker Vetreria Venier, hand-blown into marigold and tulip shapes, cast the room in sculptural light.

A wraparound mural by Pauline de Roussy de Sales, inspired by Bemelmans, stretches across the dining room in hand-painted detail, setting a tone of elegant whimsy. Houston-based art expert Illa Gaunt curated the collection of bespoke artwork, further grounding the project within the city’s cultural fabric.

Throughout the space, design flourishes extend the narrative. Handcrafted de Gournay wallpaper leads to marble- and tile-clad bathrooms, each carefully considered in their finish and flow. At the entrance, a Steinway baby grand piano signals the house philosophy of “fancy but not formal,” welcoming guests into a world of layered luxury without pretension. Even functional elements embrace artistry, like the custom-built sundae carts designed by industrial designer Aaron Rodil, which punctuate the guest experience with playful, design-driven detail.

Private dining was also integrated into the concept with intention. An 18-seat dining room provides intimacy for small gatherings, while a 40-seat enclosed patio, complete with its own bar and fountain, allows for larger-scale celebrations within the same design language.

Helmed by Chef Partner Austin Waiter, the culinary journey transports you to the heart of French cuisine, reimagined through the lens of British dining clubs. From meticulously crafted dishes to impeccable service, and overflowing glasses of Champagne, every moment at The Marigold Club is a world where posh elegance meets lively Southern charm.

Altogether, The Marigold Club represents a complete reimagining of space and spirit. Every surface, finish, and flourish works in concert to create an environment where architecture, art and hospitality converge — a destination as memorable for its design as for its cuisine.
