“The Ark” is a Modern Estate in Miami Unlike Any Other

Approaching the home at 480 Ocean Blvd. in the Golden Beach enclave of Miami, FL, its name, “The Ark,” suddenly makes sense. The home’s striking vertical gestures, inspired by beams of light that penetrate the main atrium, give the impression of an enormous ship’s prow, and with the ocean within sightline, an infinity-edged water feature connects visually, creating the illusion of being on the water. A series of bridges over this feature lead to the home’s front entrance.

When constructing the house from 2012 to January of 2015, the developer and owner, Jacob Abramson of Miami Golden LLC, wanted to create a unique single-family home. Abramson enlisted the help of Oppenheim Architecture + Design on the interiors; the end result is a dramatic and inviting turnkey home, perfect for a buyer who is looking for an artfully designed urban space that is surrounded by nature.

Abramson wanted to create a new kind of single family home that was as convenient as living in a condominium.

Scrutinized observation of the sun’s rotation facilitated the designers to create living spaces where the natural light pierces through the glass during the day and an artfully designed program of artificial lighting follows at night.

The two-story atrium proves the most visually impressive space in the home, making it the perfect spot for entertaining. Scrutinized observation of the sun’s rotation facilitated the designers to create living spaces where the natural light pierces through the glass during the day and an artfully designed program of artificial lighting follows at night.

Five guest suites are located on the second floor; all of which have private terraces, detailed closets and en suite bathrooms. The third floor is designated wholly for the master suite and boasts three private terraces adjacent to a private spa area that provides a variety of wellness options, including a massage room and a chromotherapy massage tub.

A comprehensive Lutron home automation system manages the house from all levels. A single interface controls multiple utilities, such as the A/V system, lights, cinema, automated shades and water features.

As carefully as the various aspects of the house were cultivated and sculptured, so too was the landscape, on which over 200 native species of vegetation were incorporated. Andres Arcila, landscape architect and founder of Naturalficial, carefully angled every hedge and mature tree to replicate the architecture of the house. Even the multiple terraces are enhanced with greenery; an intricate system of vines and native species, maintained by irrigation systems, wrap around the terraces, allowing for broad oceanfront views as well as privacy.

The Ark proves to be a true oasis, an ecosystem seemingly protected from the outside world.
