Quarantine can pose many different challenges. No social gatherings, no eating out, no walks in the park. It’s tough. However, it’s also an opportunity to take care of loose ends such as redesigning your home. If you’ve been meaning to do so but never got around to it, now is the perfect time. Here are some ways you can redesign your home during this quarantine.
1. Hang up artwork
Do you have some piece of art lying around? It’s time to put that to good use. Survey your home for areas that need sprucing up. Once you find the perfect spot, hang it up using a hammer and a nail. You’ll need to adjust the frame making sure it’s hanging straight.
2. Use the spare paint
You probably have a can or two of spare paint sitting in your garage. You can use that to repaint some parts of your home. A simple change of color can make a big difference to how an area looks. You can repaint the walls in your living room or the front door. This is a great time to experiment on colors since you won’t be inviting anyone over for a while.
3. Weed your garden
Take advantage of your garden and start growing some vegetables. Some easy no-fails include lettuce, spinach, green beans, cucumbers, squash, radishes, and carrots. But before you can do that, you’ll have to get rid of those pesky weeds. Use a metal weed scraper. You’ll find it quite satisfying to remove these from your yard.
4. Declutter everything
When in quarantine, you might find it overwhelming to be surrounded by so many items. Don’t wait for it to pile up even more. Dedicate a day to declutter each room. This time, don’t be so quick to throw stuff away. Garbage pickup is taking more refuse than usual and you don’t want to add to the already huge pile of trash in landfills right now. Instead, find a way to repurpose it.
As for the other items you decide to keep, make sure you find a home for them. Take advantage of your existing storage and label them so you know where to find it when you need it.
5. Make the bedroom zen
You’re probably spending more time in bed during this quarantine. Don’t worry, you’re definitely not alone. Some ways you can make sleep extra special is by replacing your fluorescent bulbs with warm-colored ones, spraying essential oil blends on your pillow, and playing some calm music.
If you want to be extra fancy, you can replace your current mattress with a really good one. You can buy a new comfortable mattress with flexible financing. That means you can enjoy better sleep without spending much money upfront.
6. Move furniture around
Now that you have more time to reflect on your interior design, consider moving some furniture around in your home. Who says you always need to buy new? Sometimes, it only takes some furniture repositioning to make a room feel new again.
Maybe you need to orient the bed to the window so you can take in more outdoor light in the mornings? Or how about putting those lamps in areas where you usually hang out? Do you have some old furniture lying around in the attic that you can use? Now is the perfect time to take them out and use them.
7. Create zones
Since we’re on the topic of moving around furniture, consider creating dedicated zones in your home. This is especially important if you live in a small space. Make sure every zone fits with your routine. For example, have a zone for drinking your coffee, doing yoga, making meals, etc. This will make your space feel more comfortable and this quarantine more tolerable.
