Mountain Contemporary: Woody Creek Estate

[nggallery id=35 template=”sliderview”]The Aspen lifestyle is a unique blend of sophistication and casual appreciation for the raw and natural beauty of the mountains. There are just over 6,000 permanent residents, but during peak holiday seasons, numbers can swell to upward of 20,000, including several illustrious figures who call Aspen their second home.

A short drive from Aspen is Woody Creek, CO, where one will find 7950 Upper River Road, a “Mountain Contemporary” home that puts a luxurious spin on Rocky Mountain outdoor living.

Current owner Andrea Wendel, furniture designer and president of Andi-Le, began building Woody Creek Estate in 2008. She worked with architects from Lipkin Warner Design and Planning, and designed the interiors herself. The resultant home is visually captivating, yet minimalistic enough to balance out the exterior views.

Woody Creek Estate’s design takes advantage of its beautiful natural surroundings, while simultaneously putting an individualistic stamp on the property. The architecture and design place a high priority on outdoor living, with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors that offer views of all four local ski areas. During the summer, most living and entertaining happens in the al fresco living room, which has an oversized, doublesided fireplace that serves both the indoor and outdoor living areas.

No corners were cut when it came to design details, and the materials and finishes are of the highest quality. Many of the materials used in the home reflect a deep appreciation for natural beauty. The Pennsylvania lilac stone utilized on the home’s exteriors was chosen for its beautiful color and was cut in large blocks for a contemporary look. The Colorado sandstone floors found both inside and on the patio, as well as the interior reclaimed Bavarian hardwood floors, were chosen for their rich look and feel.

This home also boasts a seven-layer, acoustically designed ceiling and a 1,000-bottle wine cellar with temperature and humidity controls. The master suite is on the first floor, providing privacy to and from the guest bedrooms and second living room on the upper level. All decks and the auto court have snow-melt patios with a high-efficiency natural gas boiler. An array of solar panels sends energy back into the grid, offsetting 60 percent of energy expenses.

With its two-stall barn and detached artist studio, this 5,100-square-foot Aspen home that sits on 2.75 acres offers a substantial value compared to other properties on the market today. Wendel and her local real estate agent, Steven Shane of Shane Aspen Real Estate, have teamed up with Concierge Auctions to sell this lovely home. By putting the home up for auction, the homeowner can sell the property on her own timeframe, and take advantage of a committed and pre-vetted pool of potential buyers.
