The rumors that have been circulating the internet are true: an essay contest is underway for one lucky winner to be the new owner of the Center Lovell Inn and Restaurant in southwestern Maine. With views of the White Mountains in New Hampshire, close access to water, and unbeatable grounds, the property boasts many amenities for the future business owner to take pride in.
The current owner, Janice Sage, won the inn through a similar essay contest in 1993. Now, after 22 years, she feels it is time to retire and pass the inn on to someone new, and fulfill their dreams.
The entry fee of $125 is meant to cover the selling costs of the home, and with thousands of entries worldwide, Sage has covered the cost of the home and built a comfortable retirement fund for herself.
The essay need only be comprised of 200 words or less and winners and runners-up will be chosen by two judges by May of 2015.
The inn is a promising business to own. With year-round tourism for all types of recreational outdoor activities, and Kezar Lake in close proximity, guests are sure to be filing in during any season.
The inn consists of seven guest rooms, two dining rooms, and a screened-in wrap-around porch with picturesque views of the surrounding White Mountains.
The inn is furnished by antiques, provides a warm, cozy environment; whether it is the cold days of winter or the chilly nights of summer. Everything, from the parlor fireplace and piano to the light colored paints in the dining areas, make this destination feel like a true home-away-from-home.
The house itself is of historical interest: its barn was built in 1795, and the house in 1805.
