Designer Friday: Justin Krzyston

As the founder of Stonehurst, a design studio in Studio City, California, Justin Krzyston has gained a reputation as the “anti-contractor contractor.” By keeping expectations in check, timelines realistic, and client expectations at the forefront of his designs, Krzyston’s firm is a stressless client favorite. While construction can be a challenge for both architecture teams and property owners, Stonehurt’s client-first approach is what makes the firm so easy to work with. Quickly becoming a go-to for high profile talent and socialites, Krzyston is able to make dream houses into realities. Meet West Coast wonderboy Justin Krzyston in this week’s #DesignerFriday.

Andrew Joseph: What’s your favorite time of day?
Justin Krzyston: The middle of the night when the world is quiet and no one needs anything from me. This is when I get my best work done.

Andrew: Vintage or new? Vintage
Justin: What are three things you can’t live without? My french bulldog Ella, my art collection and black olives … in that order.

Andrew: Secret talent?
Justin: If I told you, then it wouldn’t be a secret anymore.

Andrew: Must-have clothing item everyone should have?
Justin: A nice leather jacket.

Andrew: What are some of the podcasts you listen to and why?
Justin: I like The Modern Craftsman. Their stories and experiences as up and coming builders is very relatable and reminds me that I am not alone out here.

Andrew: Favorite place to view art?
Justin: I really like The Art Institute of Chicago – I also happen to be from there.

Andrew: Sweet or savory?
Justin: I would definitely have to say sweet, like me! I’m not salty lol.

Andrew: Before leaving the house, you always…
Justin: Forget something, and have to run back inside.

About The Designer | Originally from Chicago, Justin Krzyston developed a passion for architecture and design at an early age. Krzyston founded Stonehurst in 2005 after being frustrated with the lack of emphasis his previous contractor employer had towards the client relationship side of each job. The result? A company with a reputation for being attentive, knowledgeable and most of all honest and forthright. Justin’s longtime clients say that he is always on their side and consistently strives to protect their interests, not just those of the company. He sets realistic expectations before starting a project and keeps everyone informed throughout the whole process. Additionally, Krzyston’s small in-house team are known for being true professionals who are highly organized and competent in their respective fields of work.

Recognized for his meticulous attention to detail, Justin is hailed as the “anti-contractor contractor.” His clients include Academy Award winners, Olympic gold medalists, country music superstars, and some of the nation’s most prominent investors. He has completely changed the negative connotation surrounding contractors by combining the professionalism of a builder with the personable approach of an interior designer and knowledge of a real estate expert.

Justin and his projects have been featured on HGTV and the DIY Network. His work has filled the pages of Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, New York Times, Dwell and Luxe Magazine.
