Designer Friday: Ryan Saghian

Young designer Ryan Saghian may be a relatively new face in the design world, but he isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. An LA native with a drive to design since he was young, Saghian began interning at age fifteen, studied at the Council for Interior Design Accreditation, and runs his own firm in the Los Angeles area. Aside from an impressive design portfolio, Ryan launched his own signature brand, The Ryan Saghian Collection, through J Alexander’s flagship showroom, as well as a line of handmade wall coverings made to order. As if designing for retail and operating a successful firm wasn’t enough to take on, Saghian recently made his television debut on Bravo’s new design challenge program, “Best Room Wins,” where he designed a jaw-dropping room on a jaw-droppingly low budget (see pics here!). Get to know the charm behind the contestant in this week’s #DesignerFriday.

Textures galore in this Californian cool living room from Saghian Interiors.

Andrew Joseph: What’s your wakeup ritual?
Ryan Saghian: I wake up, make sure I smile and laugh, take a hot shower and run to Kings Road Cafe for an iced coffee that wakes me up and charges me for the day ahead.

Andrew: How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Ryan: My weekends are for fun and my evenings are for fabulous dinners. I always make sure to have time for friends and family!

Andrew: What are three things you can’t live without?
Ryan: My phone, my laptop, and my pup.

Face it! Saghian has an eye for choosing art, and this two-paneled selection is no exception.

Andrew: Most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?
Ryan: Skiing down crazy steep slopes in Aspen after nearly 10 years of not touching snow! So. Damn. Hard.

Andrew: What might the design world look like in 10 years?
Ryan: More vibrant, youthful design authorities who love fresh faces and new talent.

Andrew: Best advice you’d give your teenage self?
Ryan: Everything will be ok.

Andrew: A book that everyone should read?
Ryan: “A Return to Love” by Marianne Williamson
