Sky, the nation’s largest single tower rental building located at 605 W 42nd Street, has unveiled a new suite of model residences showcasing custom interiors by a select group of both up-and-coming and established designers. Nestled on the 43rd floor of the majestic 71-story tower, these model apartments feature the work of Sasha Bikoff, Interiors by Erik Galiana, Bijou Coverings by David and Jason Kaen, Churchill Living’s Eileen Guinnessey, Jack Ovadia of the Ovadia Design Group, and Quadra Furniture and Spaces. Each model allows an array of prospective tenants to envision how they would furnish their own home with the benefit of offering turnkey packages direct from the designers who will execute the entire design process.
Natasha Vardi, SVP of Residential Properties at Moinian, said, “We are curating a lifestyle for Sky residents which includes providing our tenants with everything they need at all times. Furnishing your apartment can be one of the most stressful parts of moving and we wanted to make it easy.” The new model units are distinguished from Sky’s first round of aspirational models furnished by renowned designer David Rockwell, whose Rockwell Group designed the interiors of Sky’s luxurious lobby and amenity spaces. While this new grouping also shows high end, chic interiors, they incorporate elements that are more attainable.
All of the designers were chosen by Vardi from fruitful previous collaborations with Moinian. Each one was able to leave a distinct mark, imagining the lifestyle of a client desiring the most practical and aesthetic use of their living, dining and relaxing space. The results are effortlessly livable while integrating perfectly with the sophisticated ethos of Sky.
Jack Ovadia’s style “translates modern elegance, where natural walnut woods mix with dark furniture and colorful warm materials,” said the designer. He takes advantage of the covetable views and also makes the space feel “enriching and comfortable.”
“The dining table compliments the kitchen cabinets and expands to accommodate four to eight people,” he explained, “with slim leather chairs so it doesn’t feel stuffy, and a decorative Sputnik chandelier overhead in black and gold.”
Partnering in this apartment with their unique textured wallpaper, David and Jason Kaen of Bijou Coverings noted, “The design-industry, especially the wall covering sector, is ever-changing. We constantly strive to remain at the forefront and pride ourselves in being a trendsetter. Let us be your inspiration.”
Eileen Guinnessey of Churchill said she “chose clean design elements. Clear glass tables and chrome finished accessories keep the space light. Neutral tone leathers and breathable fabrics provide an easy elegance.” Guinnessey demonstrated that, “through great design, our apartments can provide luxury living in a relatively compact space.”
Erik Galiana created “private and public areas” within one space in the studio he designed by separating living, dining and sleeping areas with a beautiful bookcase. “We have used a combination of dark wood tones, upholstery, steel, glass and lacquer to bring a variety of textures and feelings into the space and keep it visually stimulating,” he said.
Quadra envisioned a “jewelry box” said the Founder and CDO Daniela Schneider, who applied a collection of textures, core colors and the use of “mirrors to bounce light around the apartment. We opted for sculptural mirrors to keep things interesting.” Quadra also made “the painting in the bedroom the driving force behind the overall aesthetic of the apartment. We looked to it to create a cohesive color story throughout the apartment that added layers of warmth with rich golds and creams.”
Sasha Bikoff’s design realized “a cosmopolitan New York City air with a European flair.” With her dramatic choices, she “wanted to combine these two elements of old world versus new. The person who would live here is well-traveled, intellectually creative, is perhaps from another country and appreciates an eclectic ambiance,” she said. Her furnishings include Brazilian amethyst geode slab side and coffee tables, a French antique dining table from the 1940’s, lamps that are mid-century modern 1960’s, an antique Chinese deco rug and a sumptuous velvet couch.
“It has been a pleasure working with each and every firm,” said Vardi. “They have all gone above and beyond to create fantastic spaces so that when clients view them, they are wowed and excited to move in.”
