Global influences lay the groundwork for Laurie’s interior design process and evolve into modern details and décor. The architectural beauty of the riads in Morocco later translates into a kitchen backsplash. Galleries in Southeast Asia inspire the magic and craftsmanship in a home. Furniture boutiques in Copenhagen shape contemporary living spaces. For her Brooklyn Heights Showhouse spaces, local influences and borough-based artistry abounds.
We believe small spaces should be embraced and celebrated as much, if not more so than larger spaces. So, the opportunity to take what is typically a pass-through and overlooked area and transform it into a colorful, moody and expressive space was irresistible. Design details in the vestibule showcase an ethereal wall mural by a Brooklyn-based studio paired with an expansive, sculptural light fixture with an unexpected design element draping down the wall. Designed by a Brooklyn-based lighting designer, the statement fixture was inspired by the dynamic street art of the borough.
With the vestibule holding center stage with its warm saturated hues; we chose neutral, cool-toned, textural wall covering to set the mood in the powder room. A custom walnut vanity designed by Laurie Blumenfeld Design and fabricated by a local artisan adds refined form and function. Eclectic artwork, ceramics and photography set an artful tone.
