Maker Monday: An aspire Exclusive Interview With FVCKRENDER

Montreal-based artist Frédéric Duquette aka FVCKRENDER, pushes the boundaries of imagination and technology while blurring the lines between the physical and virtual worlds through his ambitious experiential art. In 2016, Duquette had a bike accident and lost sensation in the left side of his body. Compelled to exercise his brain, he started experimenting with digital renders. He’s since become a leading digital artist and collaborated with the likes of Lil Nas X, Rosalía, Lebron James and Dior. His work, self-described as his therapy, has been featured in esteemed auction houses such as Christie’s and Sotheby’s. The recent success of his FVCK_CRYSTAL project has generated millions in revenue. See these stunning designs in today’s Maker Monday.

Andrew Joseph: How do you stay creative and inspired?
Frédéric Duquette: Honestly, I don’t. There’s a lot of moments where I am completely uninspired and I don’t wanna do art. It’s part of the process, there’s no way to always be inspired, but exploring new mediums and new ideas helps spark creativity.

AJ: What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on and how did you overcome it?
FD: Mmmm this is such a good question, I’m not sure I can pinpoint exactly which project but I would say creating lvcidia, which is this virtual immersive environment I created a few years ago!

AJ: What would your dream project or dream client be right now?
FD: I wanna do more high-end fashion projects, this is really where I see myself in the next year!

AJ: What is your favorite place to find inspiration?
FD: Light! Light bounces everywhere, I like how light interacts with objects and environments.

AJ: Best advice you’d give your teenage self?
FD: Be patient, if your gut tells you no, say no. I tried to say yes to too many things thinking this might be my last job… it won’t be your last job.

AJ: What’s your favorite cocktail?
FD: I’ve been sober for 1 year and 8 months, but my drink of choice is BSA Non-Alcoholic Raspberry Beer; their branding and visual identity are so good too!

AJ: What is your favorite design era and why?
FD: I quit school at 16 years old. I have zero knowledge of art history. I started to do art to feel better! But I would say MCM.

AJ: What is your favorite design-related quote?
FD: Good question, I don’t have any quotes in particular from other people, but I like to tell myself that the best way to use art is as a diary.

About the Maker | I am driven by a relentless curiosity and a passion for pushing the limits of what is possible within the realm of digital artistry. I use art as a journal to express myself and put my emotions in the past. Art serves as my therapy, offering both a way to find myself and an outlet for expression. It has helped me to connect with others and to motivate myself.

I seek to create immersive audio and visual experiences that challenge perception and provoke thought through a contemplative focal point. Through intricate details, vibrant colors, and a sense of otherworldly energy, my artworks invite viewers to embark on a journey of exploration and introspection. Art heals. I am passionate about getting people together and creating experiences by helping others and building a community. I find with the use of technology and where we are today in society art can help bring people together.

Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to inspire, provoke, and transport viewers to worlds they never knew existed. In a world filled with chaos and uncertainty, I believe that art has the power to illuminate the darkness and inspire hope for a brighter future. This is my story. I overcame my own struggles through art. Building my sense of self through authenticity has brought me joy and a place in the world.
