A Mindful Log Cabin Kitchen Glow-up At The Jersey Shore

Award-winning interior designer Anna Maria Mannarino recently completed a thoughtful kitchen design in the Jersey Shore community of Shark River Hills. A slew of updates harmoniously merged functionality, creativity and style while honoring the cabin’s rustic architecture.

Interior Designer: Anna Maria Mannarino, Mannarino Designs Inc.
Studio Location: Holmdel, New Jersey
Clients’ wish list: The clients wanted to transform their authentic log cabin kitchen and dining area from a dark, outdated space into a bright, modern and well-designed environment. Their goals included adding contemporary style while celebrating the cabin’s original character-filled aesthetic.

Must-haves: Since one of the owners is a caterer, efficiency was critical. Pull-out shelves, soft-close drawers, generous pot storage and well-planned appliance placement created an ideal workspace. In addition to a place for gathering, the island was designed to house multiple functions including a sink, dishwasher, microwave and organized storage for streamlined cooking and cleanup.
Surprising details: The playful hardware and subtle accent on the backsplash reflect the client’s love of butterflies. Bronze hardware resembling twigs and branches are a nod to the cabin’s woodland setting.

From the Designer | Both log cabin and seaside influences were embraced in this project. The design honored the home’s charm by keeping painted areas minimal and choosing finishes to complement the natural wood. At the same time, the wood and netting seating, a gray ombre sideboard and coastal-inspired textures paid homage to the nearby river and ocean. The end result blended rustic integrity and shoreline modernity.

The clients are thrilled with their new kitchen; they love having a space that feels open and inviting. Thoughtful storage solutions and layout improvements have made cooking and hosting easier and more enjoyable. Ultimately, the project delivered a modernized kitchen that respects the cabin’s history, embraces the surrounding environment and enhances the owner’s lifestyle. A true win-win-win.
