Recently named one of House Beautiful’s “Next Wave Designers,” Toledo Geller is certainly one to make a big splash when it comes to exquisite interior design. Both Virginia Toledo and Jessica Geller have made it a top priority to get to know their clients intimately by not just looking at what they wish for, but to also look at what the client worries about. This experience allows Virginia and Jessica to create unique homes for clients in New York and New Jersey, all the way from the city to the beaches, and even to the countryside. Introducing this week’s Designer Friday, Jessica Geller and Virginia Toledo, of Toledo Geller Luxurious Interiors.
Toledo Geller wanted a true focal point to build around for this living room in Little Silver. In this case, it’s the beautiful day bed in a pale blue. Providing both functionality and beautiful furniture design, this 1880’s home reflects the client’s aesthetic.
Andrew Joseph: What’s your wakeup ritual?
Virgina: I always make sure I wake up before anyone in my house so I can have quiet time by myself. I really need this before I can deal with the world.
Andrew: What’s your go to bed ritual?
Jessica: I fall asleep on the sofa and lie to my husband that I haven’t been sleeping and haven’t missed a minute of whatever Netflix show we are binging.
Andrew: Who do you want to write your obituary?
Virginia: That’s easy – Jessica. We’ve spent more time together than anyone else and she knows everything about me, and we have so many stories together.
Jessica: Ok, I’m totally freaked out. That’s a lot of pressure. I’m such a control freak I’ll probably pre-write my obituary.
The monochromatic theme of the color blue throughout this room creates a sense of calm.
Andrew: What’s your biggest fear in life?
Virginia: Not reaching the success that I’ve planned out for myself in my mind. I’m an overachiever and I want to hit all of my goals.
Andrew: Favorite app?
Virginia & Jessica: The Steps app. It’s crazy to see those miles add up we source in the D & D Building, walk through trades shows and on job sites.
Andrew: Must-have clothing item everyone should own?
Jessica: Leopard accessories – shoes, hats, jackets…a splash of leopard pulls together the plainest (or craziest) outfit in an instant. By the way, it doesn’t work the same for an interior.
The inspiration behind this home was A Weekend in Aspen. Toledo Geller managed to turn this 80’s home into a place where family and friends can come over and relax.
Andrew: Best advice you’d give your teenage self?
Virginia & Jessica: Stay in your own lane and don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. Also, don’t wear those short shorts.
Andrew: What are some of the podcasts you listen to and why?
Virginia & Jessica: True crime podcasts (favorites are 22 Hours, Crime Junkie and The Thing About Pam), The Bowery Boys for a bit of New York City history, The Daily for all the news we need to know, How I Built This about how the biggest entrepreneurs grew their company, and Business of Design for interior design best practices. (We really like podcasts.)
