Keita Turner, HPMKT Style Spotter, Identifies The Top Trends of 2020

COVID-19 may have canceled the Spring 2020 High Point Market, but the event’s annual Style Spotters are still putting in the work to share their favorite trends and products from exhibitors. We checked in with designer Keita Turner for her top trends of 2020:

PILLOW TALK: Cozy, Plush, Round, and Soft

LaCividina | Nap Sofa designed by Andrea Steidl
Both the name and the shape of this soft, smart seat evoke the idea of restfulness. Nap takes the idea of a pillow and recreates it in an extra-large, sartorial form, with seams that are designed to give it even more of a packed appearance, such as piping around the edges of the cushions and horizontal darts. We want our homes to feel like a pillow, filled with furniture that epitomizes the ease of today’s relaxed family lifestyle.

NATURAL CURVES: Curvy, Round, and Traversing Lines

Studio A Global Views | Traverse Side Table Ashley Childers for Global Views
Curving lines found in nature inspired the Traverse Side table. A combination of exquisite form mixed with expertly matched veneers, the Studio A Home signature white stained finish and gleaming satin brass accents make this design a true original. The curvilinear love affair continues.

GARDEN SCULPTURES: Sculptural Metal Furniture

LaCividina | Filinea Chair by Antonino Sciortino
The futuristic Filinea armchair fuses natural and technological qualities. It takes its cue from euphorbia tirucalli trees and is made of round, extremely slender steel bars. The plants are very common in the South of Italy and their intricately arrayed branches inspired a seemingly impossible design: intersecting geometric lines that create an armchair with an airy outline. The extremely light seat is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

ANTIQUE-VINTAGE CHIC: Aged + Rustic Antiqued Furnishings

Sarreid Ltd. | Glass Front Bookcase
From The Farmhouse Collection, this Glass Front Bookcase is a scene-stealer! Its size will gain attention! The storage and display areas will suit you well. Eight fixed shelves and two removable ones. Made from pine and glass. Finished in Antique Country White, this vintage-inspired bookcase may be from The Farmhouse Collection, but don’t be fooled, it perfectly anchors any room with modern furniture!

EARTHEN: Textiles Inspired By Nature’s Colors

Fabricut: Vervain Tesori Collection | Nava Velvet Stripe in Bourbon Gray
New from Vervain’s Tesori Collection is a luxurious velvet stripe available in a color palette of gorgeous greys, bourbon browns, billowy blues, and Mediterranean blue-greens. Perfect for bedding, throw pillows, and upholstery, this lush and vibrant material will make an elegant statement in high-end interiors! We will see more fabrics and textiles printed or woven in earth tone and natural colors reminiscent of the oceans, beaches, skies, and gardens.

REINFORCING DOWEL: Cylindrical Dowel Inspired Furniture

Beech Boy Furniture (Mill Collective exhibitor) | Chicago Stick Chair
This chair is very aesthetically appealing. When a piece of furniture evokes this level of emotion from me – that makes it art. I love the finish shown in blackened ash and lambskin, but it’s a bonus to see this beauty is also available in alternative wood species like white oak and walnut with a fully customizable array of finishes, paint, and upholstery textiles. We are seeing a resurgence of cylindrical shaped furniture, some taking design cues from wooden dowel rods commonly used as structural reinforcements in cabinet making.

TAILORED-MADE: Timeless and Tailored Upholstery

Verellen | Alois Banquette
The Alois Dining Banquette comes standard with tight seat and back, double-needle stitch, upholstered and slipcover available, and foam down seat construction. Optional upholstered leg and casters. Shown slipcovered. 60″w, 72″w, 86″w available. This piece speaks to my core sensibilities. I love the timeless sophistication, authentic materials, elegant lines, distinctive details, tailor-made covers in forgivable fabrics!

MINIMALISTIC: Simple and Timeless Shapes or Forms

Hickory Chair | Block Dining Table Base and Top
This generous and graceful table perched atop three honed marble legs with expressed brown steel dowels provides a minimalist aesthetic that allows the top to cantilever off the bases elegantly while providing a quiet complement to the legs. The wood veneered top features a beautifully dynamic pattern. This table stands as exquisite dining, library, or conference table. 90″w – 108″w x 50″d x 30”

SHOWSTOPPER STATEMENT CABINETS: Unique Handcrafted Casegoods

Alfonso Marina | Taraceado Bar Cabinet
A unique pattern of inlaid parquetry makes this bar cabinet a showstopper of the highest levels! If you want a distinctive work of functional art, at the best quality this handcrafted beauty is just that piece! Dimensions in: W 49 1/4 D 22 3/4 H 84 1/4 in.

CENTURIES-OLD TECHNIQUES: Functional Works of Art – Decor

Arteriors | Dana Pendant
A centuries-old technique is given new life with this functional work of art. The flatweave pattern made from rattan poles are shaped by hand to create the classic dome shape, then finished in a light stonewash. Suspended by an antique brass steel pipe, its incurved bottom minimizes to the top, which maximizes its visual aesthetic. The open-form of the design allows light to flow freely and plentifully in the space it occupies.

EPOQUE CERAMICS: Handmade Pottery

Schwung Home | Set of three blue vases from W. Germany, 1960
Set of three “W. Germany” ceramic vases DIMENSIONS: W 8.75″ / D 8.75″ / H 20″ Origin: Germany Epoque
